All volunteers must be over the age of 18 (no exceptions) and agree to a 6-month commitment, must be dependable, have good communication skills, and be able to maintain appropriate boundaries with clients. Volunteers must be comfortable working with clients and staff from various backgrounds. No prior experience or training is needed for volunteer positions unless otherwise stated. 2 hours every other week minimum. Lead Bingo, crafts or other entertaining or instructive activity for residents at one of our supportive housing programs or shelters. Should have experience with people with mental health issues and be comfortable leading a group.
Act as receptionist at main office and provide other office assistance. Opportunity for interaction with clients.
Generally days, 2 hours per week minimum. Various roles including driving DESC van to hotels to pick up donations, sorting donated hygiene supplies, maintaining hygiene supply closets at various facilities.
Weekdays, 2 hours per week minimum. Sort and organize donations for shelter or supportive housing facilities and maintain clothing closets at hygiene counters.
Connections Laundry Assistant
All days, 2 hours per week minimum. Distribute hygiene supplies, launder and dry and fold clients' clothing, offer friendly listening.
Breakfast and dinners all days, 2 hours per week minimum. Help set up, serve and clean up meals at supportive housing facilities. Opportunity for interaction with residents.
Shelter Support Assistant
All days and evenings, 2 hours per week minimum. Serve coffee, distribute hygiene supplies and mail at counter while providing a listening ear and friendly conversations with clients.
